Orange Slow Payments Policy

The purpose of the Slow Payments feature is to allow users additional time to complete Lightning Network payments, in cases where the standard 60-second invoice expiry may be too short for certain wallets or user circumstances.

  1. Opt-In Requirement

1.1. Slow Payments are an explicitly opt-in feature.

1.2. The user must select the Slow Payments option at the time of payment creation in order to initiate a Slow Payment.

1.3. Standard payments (with a 60-second expiry) remain the default option unless the user actively chooses otherwise.

  2. Extended Payment Window

2.1. Under the Slow Payments option, the Lightning invoice expiry time is increased from 60 seconds to a maximum of 15 minutes.

2.2. The user may complete payment at any time within this 15-minute window.

2.3. The sooner the user completes the payment, the lower the potential deviation between the target fiat amount requested and the actual fiat amount received.

  3. Conversion Point of Exchange Rate

3.1. The conversion from Bitcoin (satoshis) to fiat currency occurs at the point in time when the Lightning payment is successfully received by Orange or its payment partners.

3.2. Due to the nature of the Lightning Network, receipt is normally near-instant, but routing delays or wallet-specific behaviours may result in minor timing variances.

  4. Fiat Settlement Outcome

4.1. The user must input a target fiat amount to be received when creating a Slow Payment. This serves as the reference value for calculating the BTC amount required.

4.2. If the BTC price decreases between payment creation and execution, the user will receive less fiat currency than the target amount.

4.3. If the BTC price increases, the user will receive up to the target fiat amount only. Any excess value above the target amount is retained by Orange and not refunded.

4.4. The fiat received by the user will therefore never exceed the target amount, but may be less.

  5. Fees

5.1. All standard fees apply to Slow Payments, including Lightning network routing fees, on/off-ramp partner fees, and bank transfer fees.

5.2. These fees are deducted in accordance with the Orange Fee Policy.

  6. Edge Cases

6.1. If the user attempts to pay after the 15-minute expiry window, the invoice will be invalid and the payment cannot be processed.

6.2. If the user initiates a payment within the 15-minute window, but the invoice expires while funds are still in flight, Orange will automatically process a refund in accordance with the Orange Refund Policy.

  7. Disclaimers

7.1. Slow Payments do not guarantee a fixed fiat settlement amount. The final fiat received may be less than the target amount due to market price fluctuations.

7.2. Orange is not responsible for any user loss arising from adverse BTC price movements during the Slow Payment execution window.

7.3. By opting in to the Slow Payments feature, the user acknowledges and accepts these risks and conditions.
